Papillon, connected to the masked ball in Jean Paul’s novel Flegeljahre, symbolizes the eternal confict between reason and imagination, and Schumann translates the feelings and emotions of the romantic world into music, alternating ardor and tenderness, vehement outbursts and sudden retreats.
I wanted to translate these contradictions into dance. Papillons, ultimately stands for metamorphosis, change, passage, in an iridescent halo of references and changes in state that reflect the essence of life.
